Lynx is a cryptocurrency with roots in the past but a vision for the future, stemming from its predecessor Kittehcoin (MEOW) which emerged in 2013 following the popularity of the Dogecoin project.
Initially well-received by the cryptocurrency community four weeks after the Dogecoin release, Kittehcoin faced a period of stagnation due to a lack of ongoing development. During this time, a critical flaw in the code was exploited by hackers, leading to an unintended increase in coin supply with each block mined, akin to illicitly obtaining $20,000 from an ATM withdrawal of $20. This breach compromised the coin's fixed scarcity, causing an immediate loss of value and eroding user trust. Consequently, interest in the project dwindled, and it was deemed defunct. In 2017, Benjamin Wilson, a seasoned technical application designer with over 25 years of software development expertise, took on the challenge of rectifying the coin's issues and revitalizing its community. Wilson's decision to revive an existing project like Kittehcoin was influenced by the established community surrounding it; why start anew when there is already a supportive audience in place - especially one incentivized economically to back the project.
Moreover, Benjamin's choice to enhance an existing coin over launching a new one was influenced by various considerations. The cryptocurrency space is often fraught with skepticism towards new projects and Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) due to prevalent scams that fail to address genuine issues. In 2016, Benjamin aimed to showcase his problem-solving capabilities within the cryptocurrency realm by tackling a tangible issue in the field. This led him to address the design flaw in Kittehcoin and rebrand the revamped project as Lynx. Leveraging his expertise, Benjamin effectively cloned Litecoin and migrated the Kittehcoin blockchain onto this platform. As a result, Lynx now inherits the advantageous features of Litecoin while retaining the complete transaction history of Kittehcoin. Through his efforts, Benjamin rectified the original flaw, provided value to existing Kittehcoin holders, and integrated all the security protocols inherent in Litecoin.
